Internship Programs

We offer programs for both both masters and doctoral graduate students, learn more and apply below.

When considering applying for any of our internships, here’s a few things we look for:

 
  • Commitment to social justice and ability to articulate how clinical work promotes social justice

  • Foundational knowledge of clinical skills, therapeutic theory and intervention

  • Basic knowledge of systems theory

  • Basic knowledge of mental health assessment 

  • Ability to use a computer and complete required documentation

  • Openness to learn, grow, and receive feedback from supervisors

  • Strong critical thinking and self-reflection skills, and a willingness to focus on self-of-the-therapist experience in supervision

Graduate Internships

Applications for our Masters Clinical internship for Summer or Fall 2024 are open. We will review applications and conduct interviews the weeks of January 15th and 22nd. This is a competitive internship as we receive way more applications than spots we have to offer. We encourage thoughtful responses in the application.

Applications for our Doctoral Clinical Internship starting Fall 2024 are also open.

MN-TRI 2024 Internship Open House

We will host an open house on December 20th, 2023 from 4-6pm for all prospective interns at our MN-TRI office. This is not required in order to apply, but he highly recommend attending our open house to meet with current interns and staff, tour our space, and learn more about our internship program.   • Masters Clinical Internship

    We offer practicum/internship opportunities for individuals in the clinical portion of their MFT, social work, or professional counseling degree. As part of our internship experience, we offer close mentorship and supervision for student-therapists as they gain the skills and confidence to work with justice-involved families who have experienced trauma.

    Key features of our internship include:

    • Co-therapy opportunities

    • Seeing clients independently

    • Supervision by LMFTs

    • Facilitating psychotherapy groups

    • Relational clients

    • Training in Narrative Exposure Therapy (NET)

  • Doctoral Clinical Internship

    MN-TRI partners with doctoral level MFT, clinical psychology (or related) programs to provide opportunities for students working towards their PhD, DMFT, or PsyD to gain additional mentorship, supervision, and leadership training.

    Key features of our doctoral internship experience:

    • Supervision from AAMFT approved supervisor if working towards licensure

    • Opportunity to supervise masters student if working towards AAMFT approved supervisor status

    • Relational clients

    • Opportunity to develop group curriculum and/or facilitate psychotherapy groups

    • Training in Narrative Exposure Therapy (NET)

    • Opportunity to participate in clinical research if desired.
